Pedro Páramo Section 47 Summary

  • A lot of natives come into town to sell herbs in the rain, and they are frightened because they feel like something bad will happen that day. Bad? In Comala? Surely not!
  • Justina, Susana's maid, goes into town and buys some rosemary from one of the Indians. She goes back to the Media Luna and puts the rosemary in Susana's room.
  • Justina feels someone grab her shoulder and tell her that she should leave because she isn't needed anymore. It's someone ghostly.
  • She says that she has to stay and take care of Susana, because she's sick. She recognizes the ghost: It's Bartolomé. She screams, like anyone would.
  • Susana asks Justina why she's screaming, and then says that the cat must have been in the night before because it crawled all over her while she slept.
  • Justina says that the cat slept with her, so Justina thinks Susana must have had a vision.
  • Justina threatens to quit her job when Pedro, now Susana's husband, comes home. Susana knows that Justina will never leave her.
