Schindler's List Scene 14 Summary

  • Enter our villain for the evening, Hauptsturmfuhrer Amon Goeth, sizing up his new domain. He'll be in charge of the new labor camp at Plaszow, which is being built by Jewish slave laborers.
  • An SS officer provides a tour for their new commandant.
  • Amon lines up the Jewish women to choose a domestic servant for his house. He chooses Helen Hirsch from the line. She shivers in the cold.
  • A commotion is heard from a nearby construction. A Jewish woman approaches Amon against her SS guard's command.
  • She explains that there's a problem with the construction of the barracks and that it must be torn down and rebuilt or it's going to sink and collapse.
  • Amon sees that the woman's an engineer. He's impressed. He orders her to be shot on sight.
  • He then follows her suggestion because he won't allow a Jew to argue with an SS officer even though he could have used her skills.
  • Helen stands alone and terrified.
