She's Come Undone started out as a short story called "Keep in a Cool, Dry Place," which appeared in Northeast magazine. It's either about Dolores Price or a bag of coffee beans, we're not sure which.

She's Come Undone is so scandalous, it didn't get banned from schools—it got banned from a prison. (Sounds like a subplot in Orange is the New Black.)They eventually reversed the ban, deciding that the "graphic nature" wasn't too graphic for prison.

If you haven't had enough of Dolores, don't despair. While there's no She's Come Undone sequel, Dolores does appear in Lamb's novel The Hour I First Believed.

There was a tollbooth accident similar to the one in the book in 1983 at the Stratford, Connecticut toll plaza. Lamb grew up in Connecticut, so maybe that accident inspired him to add the tragedy to She's Come Undone. Or maybe he just really hates tollbooths.
