The Color of Magic The Color of Magic / Chapter 18 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Rincewind and Luggage are rushing down the street when Rincewind bumps into a fellow. He turns to curse at the man, only to see himself staring Death in the fact. Like, for real—we're talking scythe, boney smile, and all.
  • Death is curious to see Rincewind at Ankh-Morpork because he's supposed to meet the wizard in Psephopololis that night. The system is messed up again, it seems.
  • He wonders if Rincewind wouldn't be kind enough to meet him there, promising it won't hurt a bit. It's an offer Rincewind irrefutably refuses.
  • Death's mildly vexed, but remembering what was to happen that night, he hums a tune "cheery as a plague pit" (1.18.21), and sets off for the Broken Drum.
