The Prince and the Pauper Chapter 19 Summary

The Prince with the Peasants

  • When Edward wakes up in the bar the next morning, he realizes that he has visitors.
  • There are two little girls who have been staring at Edward, wondering who he is. When he tells them that he's the king, they believe him. Fancy that.
  • The girls' mom isn't so convinced, however, and she keeps trying to find out Edward's "real identity." She ends up deciding that he was once a cook, and she makes him cook dinner.
  • Lucky for this lady, Edward feels indebted to them. They have a pretty good meal despite the fact that we're pretty sure Edward has never even been in the kitchen before in his life.
  • After that, the lady makes Edward wash the dishes, but he draws the line when she tries to make him drown a basket of kittens.
  • Just at that moment, who should appear but John Hobbs (a.k.a. good old John Canty) and his band of thieves.
