The Sting Scene 11 Summary

  • In Lonnegan's car, Johnny-as-Kelly explains how he wants to take over his employer's operation. But the only way he can do it is if Lonnegan places a bet for him.
  • Johnny-as-Kelly even says he'll put up the money and that he'll pay Lonnegan back out of his own pocket for the fifteen grand that Henry-as-Shaw took.
  • Lonnegan's expression softens as he realizes that Johnny-as-Kelly is a lot like him. He asks Johnny-as-Kelly where he comes from, and Johnny-as-Kelly says he comes from the Five Points neighborhood of New York.
  • Lonnegan is actually from this neighborhood too, but he's always kept it secret because the neighborhood is old and poor.
  • Before he gets out of the car, Johnny-as-Kelly tells Lonnegan that he'll be at a certain drugstore at a certain time if Lonnegan is interested in helping him.
  • Back in his apartment building, Johnny sees that his piece of paper has fallen from his door. He turns and runs just as a guy comes out of his apartment and shoots at him.
  • Johnny runs out into the street as two guys chase him. But Johnny makes his escape by clinging to the side of a street sweeper.
