It helps to go into a degree program. Learning design software programs on your own is an arduous process that could leave you falling asleep in the middle of a tutorial or throwing your computer out onto the street. (Make sure there are no cars coming first.) Many advertising agencies want to see that you have a college degree. On the other hand, clients and companies would rather scan your portfolio. Sure would be nice if you had both.
