The average length of service for enlisted Navy personnel is 15 years. You can serve longer if you choose. Or you may not have a choice…you may die in combat or sustain injuries that will force an early retirement. Some guys just can't leave because when they try to go back to civilian life, they just feel like…well, a seal out of water.
