Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Summary

How It All Goes Down

Alexander wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. Literally: the side with his skateboard on it. He trips over the skateboard on the way to wash gum out of his hair only to get his nice sweater all wet before breakfast. But the hits just keep on coming: the ride to school, the lessons at school, even the fun parts like lunch and recess are filled with annoyances, pet peeves, and jerk heads.

You'd think that school would be the end of the horror, right? Wrong. The day happened to be filled with errands too: a trip to the dentist (cavity!), buying new shoes (ugly!) and a pop-in at Pop's office (a recipe for trouble!).

Finally, they get to home sweet home. But not so sweet tonight. A bad dinner, boring TV, a too-hot bath, and an ungrateful cat are the [whatever the opposite of "cherry" is] on top of the worst day in the history of bad days (at least from Alexander's point of view).

You might think that it gets better in the end. But it doesn't. Alexander's mom tells him some days are just like that. For everyone. Everywhere.

Bummer.
