The Maze Runner Chapter 33 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Minho and Thomas run through Section One to get to Section Eight and Minho begins to show him the ropes. Literally. His method for tracing his steps involves slashing ropes of ivy from the walls and leaving them on the ground (like breadcrumbs, if you will).
  • During a break to catch their breath, Thomas asks more about the Griever that attacked Alby. (Man, he doesn't know how to shut off, does he?)
  • Apparently the Griever was only playing dead, so when Alby kicked it like an idiot the thing came to life, stung Alby, and then ran off.
  • Thomas is confused by the Griever running away, and then asks if anyone has ever followed them to see where they go. Uh, no, because the other boys actually value their lives.
  • During their lunch break Thomas sees a metal plaque affixed to the wall that says "World In Catastrophe: Killzone Experiment Department" (33.40). Minho shrugs it off and says that they're everywhere, like the Creators wanted to label their pretty little dystopia.
  • The two boys start to head back, and nothing is out of the ordinary in the Maze today.
  • As he starts to drift off to sleep at the end of the day, Thomas hears the girl's voice in his head again. She says, "Tom, I just triggered the Ending" (33.64).
