The Prince and the Pauper Chapter 33 Summary

Edward as King

  • Remember Miles Hendon? When we last saw him, he had been separated from Edward on London Bridge. He's been searching for Edward all over, wondering what in the world happened to him.
  • Miles searches all day and all night, but he can't find a single clue as to what happened to Edward.
  • Around 11 o'clock the next day, though, he passes the whipping boy, Humphrey Marlow. It seems that Humphrey Marlow has been looking for him... and it just so happens that Humphrey is the son of Miles Hendon's father's friend. What a coincidence, right?
  • Eventually, Miles is led into the palace and brought to Edward.
  • When Miles sees Edward, he doesn't even understand what's going on. But when he sits down in the presence of the king, he realizes that it's the same boy he saved from vagabonds near the beginning of the story.
  • Even though Miles is super embarrassed, the new King Edward gives him all kinds of honors, lands, and gold. Just like he promised.
  • Miles is not the only one to get special treatment: Tom Canty also gets a special title, special clothes, and the protection of the throne.
