- McMurphy walks outside with a bunch of hospital patients for recreation time.
- A group of non-restricted patients get on a bus and drive away, but McMurphy doesn't go with them. He's going to spend his free time teaching Chief to play basketball. One of the orderlies looks on with skepticism.
- McMurphy tries to tell Chief to put the basketball in the basket. But Chief doesn't respond, so McMurphy jumps up on another patient's shoulders to show Chief what to do with the basketball. Before he can make his point, the patient underneath him wanders away with McMurphy still on his shoulders.
- Meanwhile, Nurse Ratched looks down on what's happening from one of the hospital's windows.
