- After the exam, the girls get a break from their studies and spend their time outdoors, waiting for the prince and his convoy to arrive.
- One day a bunch of wagons show up and the girls are nervous and thrilled at once—the prince is finally here. Tutor Olana rushes the girls inside as the prince's people set up big tents outside.
- All the girls make a pact that they'll be happy no matter who the prince chooses, but as they talk, Britta seems distracted—she's coming down with something and isn't feeling well.
- Britta starts developing a fever, and Miri sneaks out to go find Knut. On the way to the kitchen, she catches a glimpse of the prince and they make eye contact.
- Knut comes in and confirms that Britta is definitely sick; the girls take turns giving her sips of cool water and putting a washcloth on her forehead.
- Soon the seamstresses arrive to dress all the girls for the ball. The girls are super excited and thrilled to be putting on such pretty dresses, but poor Britta can't go to the ball because she's so ill.
- When they get to Esa, they use a beautiful shimmery scarf to tie up her arm that doesn't work, and Esa is no longer worried about looking foolish in front of the prince because now she feels beautiful.
- Finally they get to Miri. She wears the shimmering silver gown and the seamstresses take extra care with her hair and styling.
- Tutor Olana comes in and tells the girls to line up behind Miri. It is time to meet the prince.
