Princess Academy Chapter 5 Summary

  • Miri throws herself into trying to keep up with her studies—even secretly "borrowing" a book from Tutor Olana to read late at night by herself. She has a lot of time, after all, since none of the girls will talk to her.
  • Whenever the other girls go outside, Miri stays inside and reads her book, History of Danland.
  • One day, Tutor Olana is teaching the girls how to read out of History of Danland; Britta can't read through the paragraph, but Miri reads it easily.
  • Tutor Olana says that if the prince were to come tomorrow, Miri would be the obvious academy princess—instead of being happy for her, the other girls just shoot her dirty looks.
  • Miri goes outside to use the outhouse that night and hears some of the other girls talking about how much they dislike her; she walks by them and Katar even looks at her challengingly.
  • Miri goes back inside and tries to concentrate on becoming academy princess. Even if she doesn't have any friends, she can still win over the prince, right?
