Floral design is one of the more artistic of the horticultural industries, which affords a slight but real sort of flower power. Floral designers are often given the artistic freedom to select colors, textures and the specific flowers for their work in public spaces. That can be slightly empowering. However, most of the high profile work of floral designers is for clients who already know something about what they want for specific events, and only need a designer to assemble it. It is still fun, but not quite as empowering. But hey, if empowering is what you’re after, go take a Women’s Lib course at your local college. Or step on a bee.
