Feathers Part 3 / Chapter 7 Summary

  • Frannie calls for her mama when she gets home, but Sean comes out and signs to her that their mama is sleeping. It's early, but she's tired.
  • Apparently, three years ago mama started complaining about her stomach hurting, and it turned out that she was pregnant but that the baby was not "thriving." She had to stay in the hospital after the baby died.
  • Their family had to deal with a heavy sadness for a while. But the years have passed, and their mama has started feeling better and acting happier.
  • Seam reassures Frannie that their mama is just fine; she just happens to be tired. He's a super handsome dude, by the way, but girls always stop pursuing him when they realize that he's deaf, which is totally not fair.
  • Frannie goes to look at the picture of Lila, and then goes in to her mama's room and asks her if she's okay. Her mama tells her that she needs to stop worrying, and that she's just tired from dealing with her kids all day—which doesn't make sense, since she and Sean go to school.
  • Then Frannie's mama asks her about school, and Frannie tells her all about the new boy and how he looks like Jesus.
