Oh, the Places You'll Go! Theme of Perseverance

Okay, so we may have said Dr. Seuss is everybody's dad before, but now we really mean it. What dad (or mom) hasn't lectured their kid about the importance of perseverance? Daddy Seuss is no exception, and we're the better for it. Throughout Oh, the Places You'll Go! we see our protagonist rewarded for grinding those teeth and pushing on. It doesn't matter that he often has no clue where he's going or why. He just has to trust that better things are around the corner, where we just might find chocolate cake or elephants in rollerskates.

Questions and Answers

Questions the little ones might ask and how you might respond

Q: Um, what does perseverance mean?
A: Well, we could give you the dictionary definition, or we could just tell you that the next time you fall off your two wheeler, you'd better get right back on. That's perseverance.

Q: Why do I have to persevere when I can just hang out playing video games?
A: Because when the zombie apocalypse comes, video games can't help you. But street smarts can.

Q: What if I don't want to move mountains?
A: Hmm. I think Seuss might have a little something to say about that: "Sometimes you will play against you." It sounds like that's just what you're doing now.
