Casablanca Scene 29 Summary

  • Renault's office the next morning. Strasser tells Renault he suspects that Ugarte left the letters of transit with Rick. Ding ding ding!
  • Victor and Ilsa arrive for their "appointment," and Strasser tells Victor there's no way he's leaving Casablanca. He sounds a little like a dad grounding his son.
  • Strasser throws him a curveball, though. He says he'll let them leave for Lisbon on one condition—that Victor give up the names and whereabouts of the leaders of the underground movement against the Third Reich. But this is one canary who ain't singin'.
  • Victor and Ilsa leave Renault's office, but not before being told that Ugarte is dead. Let's see the hands of everyone who's surprised that the Nazis killed someone.
