Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Good vs. Evil Quotes

How we cite our quotes: All quotations are from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Quote #4

ELSA: I believe in the Grail, not the swastika.

INDIANA: You stood up to be counted with the enemy of everything that the Grail stands for. Who gives a damn what you think?

ELSA: You do.

As soon as she's revealed to be working with the Nazis to get the Holy Grail, Elsa spends the rest of the movie trying to convince Indiana that she's not really evil, she's just using the Nazis to get the Grail—because that's a virtuous move. Yeah, right. While Elsa may not as be black-and-white evil as the Nazis are, this movie shows that aligning yourself with evil to get something you want—even if you don't buy into or share those evil values—is still a bad, wrong thing to do, and it has consequences.

Quote #5

DONOVAN: (To Elsa:) Who is he?

KAZIM: A messenger from God. For the unrighteous, the cup of life holds everlasting damnation.

Kazim straight-up tells Donovan that the Grail's going to destroy him, but, of course, Donovan doesn't see himself as unrighteous. Not even a little bit. Donovan is way to full of himself to have any doubts about himself. And that's a kind of narcissism that this movie shows to be—surprise—actually evil when you get right down to it.

Quote #6

VOGEL: What is this book, that miserable little diary of yours?

He slaps Henry in the face with his glove.

VOGEL: We have the map. The book is useless, and yet you come all the way back to Berlin to get it. Why?

He slaps him again.

VOGEL: What are you hiding?

He slaps him again.

VOGEL: What does the diary tell you that it doesn't tell us?

Vogel tries to slap Henry again; Henry grabs his wrist, stopping him.

HENRY: It tells me that goose-stepping morons like yourself should try reading books instead of burning them.

Vogel isn't just evil, he's also an evil henchman, which means he's evil…and, well, not very bright. Do you think he knows he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer? Is he slapping out of frustration, or is he doing it just because he's a jerkwad?
