Slam Chapter 4 Summary

  • Sam is still with Alicia, but it's not the same as it once was. He's still into her, just not as much as he was before.
  • Maybe it's because they spend all of their time together and are getting sick of each other.
  • When his mom starts to notice that Sam's not heading over to Alicia's as often anymore, he figures he should go over there. He doesn't want his mom to suspect anything.
  • He tells us that Alicia's parents (Robert and Andrea) are really cool and sometimes he wishes his parents were like that.
  • Robert teaches college literature, but he still listens to hip-hop music. As for Andrea, she taught drama before she became a councilor.
  • Before long, though, Sam realizes Robert and Andrea aren't as cool as they seem. They always talk down to him like he's stupid, and they don't expect him to go to college because of where he comes from.
  • It's ironic to Sam that Robert and Andrea don't realize their own daughter has no interest in college whatsoever, since she wants to be a model, but he keeps that to himself.
  • Alicia notices that her parents are all holier than thou with Sam, but she tries to brush it off.
  • Sam gets home to find Mark at his house, talking to his mom. He realizes they are dating now, but doesn't really want to think about it too much. It's not that he wants his parents back together or anything, he just doesn't want to be forced to be besties with some guy he hardly knows.
  • He goes into his room, shuts the door, and talks it over with TH. Unsurprisingly, Tony doesn't have much to say on the matter, but Sam feels better just getting it off his chest all the same.
