The Revenger's Tragedy Act 3, Scene 1 Summary

  • Back at the ranch, Ambitioso and Supervacuo are plotting their own murder: They decide to kill Lussurioso themselves rather than take the signet to the judges.
  • Ambitioso is quite excited because this will leave him heir to the dukedom. However, Supervacuo hints to the audience (though not of course to Ambitioso) that he's planning to kill Ambitioso and become duke himself. It's the playbook of a million baddies—one betrayal leads to another—but Ambitioso doesn't seem to realize that Supervacuo might do the same thing to him that they're planning to do to their stepbrother.
  • But for the moment, Ambitioso and Supervacuo have similar goals. They decide to free their brother Junior from prison, since they have to go there anyway to murder Lussurioso. They reason that people will forget about the rape he committed and they can easily let him go. Could this family get any more dysfunctional?
