Things Not Seen Chapter 11 Summary

Close Calls

  • Bobby and Alicia (yes, the blind girl has a name now) get into the elevator and go downstairs. As they get outside, he tells her that she's pretty good at getting around by herself, and she gets kind of sarcastic about it.
  • He tells her that he'll walk her home and lets her hold onto his elbow, even though he's nervous that she'll figure out that he's entirely naked. That would be awkward and difficult to explain.
  • As they're crossing the street, though, a kid with a scooter almost runs them over and Bobby pushes Alicia out of the way—only to have her hand graze his very bare torso. Uh-oh…
  • She starts screaming at him to go away because she thinks that he's some kind of sick pervert freak. He screams back that she has no idea what's going on with him, and that she's judging him without really knowing him.
  • Then he does something crazy: Bobby goes right ahead and tells her that he's invisible. Of course, she doesn't believe him and tells him to stop it with his mean-spirited jokes.
  • Alicia marches right up to some random stranger at Starbucks and tells him to confirm that Bobby is standing right there next to her. Of course, random dude doesn't see anything, so he tells her that there is absolutely no one there.
  • That's when Alicia starts to believe him… as unbelievable as his story is. She instantly starts worrying about how cold he must be, since he is walking around naked.
  • She goes into Starbucks and buys him a hot chocolate so that he can warm up. Alicia apologizes to him and tells him that she gets mad a lot, and he says that he does, too. Go team.
  • That's when Bobby tells Alicia that he has to go home before his mom absolutely loses it when she can't reach him. He also swears her to secrecy about his little problem.
  • They say goodbye, and she tells him that she'll be in the study room again tomorrow from one to three. Sounds like a date.
