Things Not Seen Chapter 3 Summary

Out There

  • Bobby heads into the cold Chicago winter, all bundled up so that his clothes and sunglasses give him the appearance of actually having a visible body.
  • He's taking the bus to the library because he doesn't want to sit at home and watch television all day, even though the whole trip makes him nervous since he has to sign in at the front with an ID.
  • It goes just fine, though, and he heads upstairs and into the bathroom to take off all his clothes and hide them in the ceiling tile. He's basically walking around a public library naked—nice.
  • He helps a girl on the computer out by pressing the button she needs, but then she pushes her chair into him and he yells. The girl is understandably super freaked out by the whole situation and moves off to a different workstation.
  • After he wanders around the library for a while, Bobby goes back into the bathroom to pick up all his clothes, and then he leaves.
  • As he's walking out, though, he runs into a girl outside and her stuff goes flying everywhere. And that's when he realizes that his scarf is on the floor… revealing that a part of him is invisible.
  • But the pretty girl doesn't seem to mind, and that's when it hits him: She's blind. Phew. That was a lucky break.
