Touching Spirit Bear Chapter 23 Summary

  • Cole realizes that to become invisible, he has to clear his mind. The last time he saw Spirit Bear, he was so close to death that he could hardly think—he had completely given up control over his life.
  • In the morning, he goes to the pond and sits down, focusing on a single white rock near the water's edge. He breathes and tries to clear his mind of absolutely everything else, even closing his eyes.
  • The more he breathes, the calmer and less angry he becomes—and when he opens his eyes again, he sees Spirit Bear looking at him. They stare at each other for a moment before Spirit Bear walks away.
  • Cole sits by the pond and clears his mind a bit more before eventually making his way back to the camp. He builds a fire, cooks his supper, and then does the dance of anger.
  • He attacks a tree while he dances, taking out all his rage on it. Then he starts yelling about how he's sorry for what he did to Peter. Finally, exhausted, he says that he's sorry and that he forgives everyone who did him wrong…and then he falls to the ground.
