Toy Story Theme of Friendship

What would we do without friends? Even a toy needs friends… unless of course you're a toy named Woody. Sure, Woody socializes with the other toys, but is he really truly friends with anyone but Andy?

Buzz Lightyear changes all that. In a way, Toy Story is like a classic buddy comedy…where the two leads start out hating each other. It's not until Woody spends some time down in the dumps that he becomes a better toy, and a better friend to everyone.

The toys in Andy's room are stuck together, but they wouldn't really call each other "friends" until the end of the movie.

Woody's able to become friends with Buzz by the end of the movie because he's experienced sadness and disappointment, which makes him more empathetic and open to other toys. Aww!
