Feed Chapter 29 Summary

a day in the country

  • As they continue, Violet gives Titus the lowdown on her family situation. Her parents used to fight a lot, so her mom "ran away," and that's when her dad became the way he is now. In a word, weird.
  • For his entertainment, she plays for Titus some memories of seeing her dad lecture. It's all complicated computer-language stuff.
  • Titus's family is much less interesting. His parents basically did what everyone else did—got married. His dad proposed to his mom in a really showy way: by having the engagement ring emerge from a fake cyst on his finger. Um, ew.
  • They finally arrive at their destination, a farm out in the countryside.
  • Oh, but not just any kind of farm: a filet mignon farm. That's right—a high-tech farm with filet mignon growing in fields, and not a cow in sight.
  • After eating some cider doughnuts, Titus and Violet climb upon to an observation platform to check out the filet mignon farm from above. They can see where some of the genetic coding has gone wrong, ending up with random horns, or an eye, or a heart. Um, ew.
  • Titus returns home after dropping Violet off, and can sense his family: Smell Factor is asleep with a kids' show playing in the background, and his parents are in mal upstairs. Welcome home, honey!
  • He goes to sleep with the feed chattering on about what to buy, what to listen to, and that lesions are totes okay now, because the stars of Oh? Wow! Thing! now have them.
