A Face in the Mirror
- On Halloween the villagers all put on masks and gather in a place decorated with many mirrors and nooks and crannies.
- Eldric beckons for Briony to follow him behind a curtain of canvas where they can talk in private.
- He picks up their conversation from the day before and points out that Rose never would have gotten onto the swings willingly, but Briony brushes his comment aside.
- They joke about her punching him yesterday, and Eldric tells Briony that he has cut things off with Leanne for good.
- When he asks her to take off her mask she fears being vulnerable with him, but she does.
- When she takes off her mask, he apologizes for the other day, tells her the letter he burnt the day before was for her, mentions being upset when she said she would never get married, and confesses to loving her. Finally.
- The clock strikes twelve just as she looks into his eyes… and Briony says she must go.
- Eldric asks what to do with the gun she asked him to bring, and she tells him to make sure she isn't hanged and runs away.
