Flora and Ulysses Chapter 11 Summary

A Gigantic Vat of Incandesto!

  • Flora sets Ulysses down on her bed and starts talking to him.
  • She hopes he can understand what she's saying, and when he looks right at her and nods, she figures he can.
  • The only problem is, she can't understand him, because he can't exactly talk, being a squirrel and all. They'll have to do something to remedy this.
  • She explains to Ulysses that he was vacuumed up, and now he might have superhero powers. Flora also thinks it's best to recite the advice from Terrible Things Can Happen to You!: "don't hope, observe."
  • She tries to remember this when she wants things to end up a certain way—she should just carefully note what's happening so she's not disappointed later.
  • As she explains all this to Ulysses, she shows him the Incandesto! comic book so he'll get it.
  • Okay, so he's a superhero, but what will his superhero power be? How will he fight evil when he's just a squirrel?
  • Meanwhile, Flora's mom yells to her upstairs. She can hear Flora talking—to no one—and is worried and distracted. She wants her daughter to cut it out.
  • When Flora protests that she's talking to a squirrel, her mom laughs it off and tells her to get downstairs.
