Flora and Ulysses Chapter 37 Summary

Singing with the Angels

  • Inside Dr. Meescham's place, Ulysses opens his eyes and tries to figure out what happened. His head hurts a bunch. Is he still alive?
  • Where is he?
  • Dr. Meescham claims her eyes aren't what they used to be. When she was growing up in Blundermeecen, she could read from really far away, but now not so much.
  • Then she explains to Flora that her hubby is the real medical doc. She's got a PhD, so she's a doctor, too, but in a different way; her husband's dead now, though, so she'll just have to do.
  • She asks why Flora thinks Ulysses has a concussion, and Flora tells her about the squirrel flying through the air and hitting the door.
  • Dr. Meescham remembers loads of people getting concussions back in Blundermeecen as "gifts" from the trolls. (For the record, we prefer gift cards.)
  • Flora doesn't get it, but she's distracted by news about her squirrel's state: It's probably not a concussion because his pupils aren't dilated. Phew.
  • Without thinking, Flora asks Ulysses if he remembers what happened, and he nods his little head, prompting Dr. Meescham to notice that he communicates with Flora. Dr. M is appropriates amazed.
  • Flora explains that he was vacuumed up and now he's got superhero powers.
  • At fist Dr. Meescham isn't sure what Flora means, but then she realizes that Flora's talking literally.
  • They decide that the squirrel is hungry. Again.
  • Anyone up for donuts with sprinkles?
