Flora and Ulysses Chapter 26 Summary

Spies Don't Cry

  • As Flora's dad drives away, she thinks about how careful he is behind the wheel. He never speeds or does anything too rash.
  • She asks him about the shovel and sack in the back of the car, but unsurprisingly, her dad doesn't give her any details. Instead he just asks her what she's talking about.
  • That's when it hits Flora that her dad would make an excellent spy. He never really answers questions, but just asks another question back; it's very tricky of him.
  • She remembers this is how he acted when she found out her parents were getting a divorce, too. But then again, he also cried then.
  • Flora's pretty sure spies don't cry.
  • Flora's dad suggests they grab a bite to eat, and Flora thinks that's a great idea.
  • Plus, she remembers The Criminal Element recommends delaying as much as possible when you're sure something bad is about to happen. (Like, say, your dad planning to kill your pet superhero squirrel.)
