Flora and Ulysses Chapter 4 Summary

A Surprisingly Helpful Cynic

  • Flora runs from her room, downstairs, as fast as she possibly can. She must save the squirrel.
  • As she's flying out the door, her mom asks her where she's going, but she's too busy to answer.
  • She gets to the vacuum cleaner and grabs it from Mrs. Tickham, before giving it a few good shakes.
  • Out plops the squirrel.
  • A bunch of his fur is vacuumed off, and he looks a little mangy, but it could be worse. She thinks back to The Illuminated Adventures of the Amazing Incandesto! and knows a superhero would know what to do.
  • Wait a minute—she's read Terrible Things Can Happen to You! a million times, so she'll be able to figure it out, too.
  • She knows she's got to give the little guy CPR, but how exactly does she give mouth-to-mouth to a squirrel? Flora's not sure, but she gives it a try.
  • Mrs. Tickham thinks Flora's lost her mind, and maybe she has; still, she's got to try.
