- An elephant-sized box appears in the middle of the ring.
- It arrives empty and without warning, but Ivan knows it's got to be for Ruby, especially since a woman no one has seen before puts an apple in the middle of the floor of this box, and gives Ruby a carrot every time she expresses a bit of interest in going inside, which she hasn't done all the way—yet.
- Ivan breaks it to Ruby that what the woman really wants is for Ruby to get in the box so that she can transport her to the zoo in it.
- Ruby isn't interested in moving to a zoo. She considers Ivan and Bob her family, and this place her home.
- Ivan tells her the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade is her prison, not her home.
- Soon an animal doctor appears, examining Ruby then Ivan, who beats his chest and roars as the doctor enters his cell. The decision to put Ivan under for his exam makes him feel fierce and powerful in the face of humans.
- Business as usual grinds to a halt. No shows, no visitors.
- An Ivan-sized box appears, and Bob tries to bid Ivan adieu.
- Ivan recalls his last memory of being in a box, when his twin sister died.
