Pudd'nhead Wilson Chapter 7: The Unknown Nymph Summary

  • The townspeople all clear out of Aunt Patsy's place.
  • Judge Driscoll takes the twins for a ride in his buggy to show them around town. Highlights of the trip include a tour of the graveyard and the jail. Oh, and he gets the fire company to put out a fake fire. LOL.
  • Driscoll also invites them to a meeting of the Society of Free-thinkers that evening.
  • On the way to the meeting, Driscoll tells them about Pudd'nhead, playing up his good qualities so he can influence their impression of him before they learn about his reputation from anyone else.
  • Driscoll and the twins arrive at the meeting place and the four men chat up a storm. They have such a great time that Pudd'nhead invites the twins to his house later that night.
  • As Pudd'nhead is waiting for the twins, he thinks about something weird he noticed when he looked out his window early that morning: a young woman was in Tom's bedroom. Pudd'nhead tried to get a look at her face, but didn't have any luck. Then she left.
  • Pudd'nhead wonders what in the world this is all about.
