- Lin goes to work for Khaderbhai. He goes through a sort of black-market orientation, passing through all the different branches of the mob's business.
- He works with Khaled in the money-trading business and learns the gangster's philosophy on life and crime.
- Since he's in such bad shape, Lin decides not to move back into the slum, but he does visit his old pals there regularly.
- To get back into shape, Lin works out with Abdullah. He's obsessed by whoever it was that got him put in jail. He wants to be in fighting form when he meets them.
- Vikram tries to tell Lin that the reason he got out of jail is that the Indian people have heart, and that the cops liked him.
- Didier joins them for a drink and tells them that Indira Gandhi has been killed. He also allows that Lin's betrayer was a woman.
- After the heavy stuff, Didier gives Vikram an idea for how to win Lettie's heart.
- Lin takes off, walking until Prabaker catches up to him in his taxi. He tells Lin that he's going on a triple date, with his girlfriend Parvati, Johnny Cigar, and his girlfriend Sita, as well as the girls' mother.
- They come upon a demonstration in the street because of Gandhi's death, and Prabaker sheds a tear for the dead leader.
- Later he drops off Lin at Khaled Ansari's car, and they talk about another tragedy. Khaled's entire family was killed in Lebanon and it eats away at him.
- They, too, talk about Indira's death and what effect it will have on the money markets.
