The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Chapter 24 Summary

  • Epigraph: "In your eyes I am complete."—Peter Gabriel
  • The nurses kick Tibby out of Bailey's room at eight, so Tibby decides to catch a movie.
  • She sees Dragon Master Wizard, Brian McBrian, and asks him to teach her how to play the video game; afterward, Brian asks about Bailey. He wants her to have a video game to play at the hospital.
  • Tibby realizes how much she enjoyed playing with Brian, and realizes that happiness is found in the little things in life—stuff like playing video games and eating ice cream.
  • Lena is enjoying her last breakfast with Bapi. She's memorized some Greek and is ready to impress her grandfather, but then she realizes they don't need to talk to enjoy each other's company.
  • Bapi squeezes her hand and says, "You're my girl" (24.29). Aw.
  • Bailey's health is failing and Tibby is still by her side; she plays the Dragon Master game for Bailey.
  • Tibby admits Bailey was right about Brian being a cool kid, and she feels like a heel for judging others too quickly.
  • Flying home from Athens, Lena reads two letters from Bridget—she is obviously upset—so, worried, Lena decides to fly to see her friend.
  • Tibby answers the phone and knows instinctively that Bailey has died.
  • After the services, Tibby spends a quiet moment with her baby sister Katherine, crying into the baby's fuzzy hair.
  • Finally Tibby rescues Mimi from the freezer; she buries her next to Bailey.
  • She thinks about curling up next to her two dead friends, but thinks again, and decides "to make her life big" (24.79)—she is going to keep playing, just as she promised Bailey.
  • Bridget is shocked to see Lena. Who needs the Pants? Lena makes Bridget feel better already.
