John Hughes

We're not sure which clique John Hughes was part of. Hippie? Beat poet? Techie?

But whichever group he was part of, you know he was in a creative writing club. John Hughes was an insanely prolific screenwriter. From 1983-85, he wrote seven—seven—films that made it to the big screen. (Source)

In addition to the Michael Keaton comedy Mr. Mom (1983)men doing housework, hilarious!—Hughes wrote the classic Chevy Chase comedy National Lampoon's Vacation (1983). Hughes worked with the Lampoon magazine in the late 1970s, and one of the films he lampooned was Jaws. Universal contracted the Lampoon to write a script for an official Jaws comedy. Hughes wrote the treatment, but the film was never produced, instead leaving us with the so-bad-it's-funny Jaws 3D (1983).

While writing The Breakfast Club, Hughes was struck by a headshot of Molly Ringwald, so he wrote Sixteen Candles with her in mind. (Source)

After Sixteen Candles became a smash, John Hughes' reputation as Teen King was cemented. He would go on to write Pretty in Pink (1986), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) as well as Home Alone (1990), Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987) and even the ultimate Jennifer Lopez classic, Maid in Manhattan (2002).

He didn't just write about teens. The guy had range.
