Exactly how steamy is this story?

An alternate title for this book could be Snow Falling on Naughty Bits, as there's quite a bit of steamy content. Also, beyond the sex scenes, there are a couple of, er, rather vivid and non-sexy descriptions of private parts (one of which is pretty grisly, so consider yourself warned).
The novel's sexual content has made its use controversial in schools across the U.S. and Canada (it was #33).
