Splendors and Glooms Epilogue Summary

How Many More Minutes?

  • At the funeral, Parsefall is impatient because he just wants to get home to London already. He looks over to see Lizzie Rose huddled with Clara's mother, who has really bonded with her new daughter.
  • Clara is a little jealous of their bond, but Parsefall thinks that she'll be just fine. After all, she now has two siblings who will always be with her.
  • When they get home, he and Clara plan to put up a little theater in the nursery and start performing. And, Dr. Wintermute is going to set him up with an apprenticeship with the Royal Marionettes. All of his dreams will come true.
  • He also decides that he's going to bring that brass monkey—the one that gave Cassandra nightmares—to put on Grisini's grave so it can haunt him in death.
  • The children all stand impatiently at Cassandra's graveside together, waiting for the funeral to be over so that they can go home and have lots of fun together. They're going to have a good life.
