One Day at a Time

For a film about something as weird as inanimate objects coming to life, Toy Story plays it pretty straight with its narrative structure. Every single scene unfolds in a classic chronological style. One thing happens, then another, then another, and so on.

Of course, this works pretty well as we're following Woody's story. Once we get the basic set up, everything starts to go wrong for our hero. Then more things go wrong, then more things, and…well, you get the idea.

Toy Story also has what some story-telling buffs like to refer to as a ticking clock scenario. No, there's no bomb that's set to explode in fifteen minutes, but all the toys are under a time crunch which Woody mentions in the first few moments of the film—Andy's moving.

When Woody and Buzz get lost on the way to Pizza Planet, Woody realizes that they're gonna have to find their way home before that moving van pulls out of Andy's driveway and he's separated from his favorite boy forever.
