Character Analysis
This is the dude who ends up going above and beyond to help Steinbeck when he has a massive tire blowout (and another tire threatening to do the same) in Oregon. Things don't look too promising at first—Steinbeck's initial impression is that the guy is "a giant with a scarred face and an evil white eye" (3.7.125)—but the attendant ends up helping Steinbeck out by calling all over the place on a Sunday and getting tires on Steinbeck's truck that same day. Steinbeck is beyond grateful, as you might imagine.
