- Dumbledore's Army meets to practice defensive spells with Harry as their teacher day after day, but Umbridge obviously suspects they're up to something.
- She tries to get Mr. Filch to catch them in the act. She also uses Educational Decrees to outlaw student organizations and to get students to submit to questioning. She also starts up her own Inquisitorial Squad. The Slytherins all join. Of course.
- Meanwhile, the members of Dumbledore's Army are making a lot of progress. Harry tells his pupils that all great wizards started out as students.
