Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter)

Character Analysis

Lestrange And L'deranged

From the moment we see Bellatrix Lestrange sitting in her cell in Azkaban it's clear that she's got a few screws lose. She licks her Dark Mark and laughs manically as the wall to of the prison is blasted away. We guess fifteen years in Azkaban will really mess with your head…

Or maybe she was always nuttier than a Cockroach Cluster.

Bellatrix really gets to show off her insanity at the Ministry of Magic. Unlike the other Death Eaters, she doesn't wear a mask. Why bother to hide her devotion to the Dark Lord? She even taunts Neville Longbottom who she recognizes from the time she tortured his parents into insanity.

Yeah, she's a real peach.

But, Bellatrix's big moment comes when she kills Sirius Black. This guy is her cousin (remember: she appears on the Black family tree) and she sends a killing curse shooting right at his chest. Then, she runs off singing and laughing as Harry follows after her:

BELLATRIX: I killed Sirius Black. You coming to get me?

Bellatrix is so unhinged that she literally does not seem to care. When Harry tries to use the Cruciatus Curse on her, she whimpers a little. Then Voldemort shows up and she just laughs even more. Oh, wow. Killing people is super fun.

While Lucius Malfoy is a cool customer, Bellatrix is all passion and dedication and intensity. She seems to really relish serving Voldemort and doing his evil bidding. She's probably the closest thing to an actual friend that the Dark Lord actually has.

You know, if Voldemort had friends. Sorry, Bellatrix. Voldemort's just not that into you.
