Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Scene 3 Summary

  • The group arrives on a dark London street. Moody bangs his walking stick against the ground a few times and the row houses in front of them start to move, revealing a new house. Oooh, magic!
  • Inside the new house—Number 12, Grimmauld Place—Harry sees a group of people talking at a table. You'll probably recognize Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black right away.
  • Mrs. Weasley shoos him upstairs and Harry runs into an ancient looking house elf named Kreacher on his way up.
  • In an upstairs bedroom, Harry runs into Ron and Hermione. They explain that they're in the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. It's a secret society that Dumbledore started back in the days when Voldemort first appeared.
  • Well, now that explains the title. It also explains why the gang's back together now that He Who Must Not Be Named is up and running again.
  • It's all very interesting but Harry's wondering why they couldn't have told him all this in a letter. He's been stuck with his awful Muggle relatives all summer with no news at all. Ugh.
  • Ron and Hermione said they wanted to write but Dumbledore told them not to. Weird…
  • Just then, Fred and George Weasley appear with some extendable ears and a plan.
  • The kids move into the stairwell to listen to the adults talk downstairs.
  • The members of the Order are debating how much Harry should be told about their plans. Harry can also hear that his old pal Severus Snape is in the Order of the Phoenix.
  • Of course, then Hermione's cat, Crookshanks, comes along and pulls down the extendable ear, putting an end to their eavesdropping. Bad Crookshanks.
