Midwinterblood Part 2, Chapter 1 Summary

The Archaeologist

  • A new story begins: We're still on Blessed Island, but we've gone back in time to July of 2011.
  • This tale opens with a boy and an archeologist.
  • The archeologist is named Edward and he's brought a team of students to Blessed Island—Nancy, Isabella, and Mat—to dig.
  • The trip has been expensive and difficult and, so far, the team hasn't had any luck finding anything of importance. Bummer.
  • Of course, it wouldn't be Blessed Island without some weird thing happening. Edward notices that every morning, without fail, a boy who's around sixteen years old comes to their digging site to watch the little archeological team do their work.
  • Then, every afternoon, without fail, a woman's voice calls him in for lunch. Half an hour later, the boy is back and he spends the rest of the day watching them. See? Weird.
  • Edward has a suspicion that there's something wrong with the boy because he never talks.
  • But he's also odd in other ways. He's a teenager and huge and strong, but he carries a little stuffed hare with him everywhere he goes. Hmm…
