The Goonies Scene 34 Summary

  • Back to the rest of the gang. The pervading theory is that the skeleton represents the remains of Chester Copperpot, the supposed "expert" who never made it out of the tunnels alive. Doesn't bode well for a bunch of kids, does it?
  • The group's theory is confirmed when they find Chester's name inside the dead guy's wallet.
  • Among Mr. Copperpot's ex-possessions, Mikey discovers some "candles" which look a bit like "dynamite." Especially because they have the word "dynamite" printed on them. Data begins setting booby traps in case they're being followed. Meanwhile, Mikey lifts a skull-shaped key off Chester, and hangs it around his neck.
  • It turns out that Data isn't the first person to have ever walked through this tunnel with booby traps on the brain.
  • Mikey accidentally sets off one of One-Eyed Willy's old traps, and the Goonies are nearly crushed beneath a number of large boulders.
  • They don't get much time to catch their breath afterward, as Brand then moves a large rock that releases hundreds of bats.
