Beaufoy wrote a prize-winning story for the penny weekly Titbits. Though it is made clear that it is not very good, Bloom admires him and thinks that perhaps he can write like Beaufoy does. In the "Circe" episode, in Bloom's imagined trial against himself, he claims to be a writer. Beaufoy appears and suggests that Bloom is a plagiarist.
