This one goes to students with hefty financial need. Only available to future college freshmen whose families earn $50,000 a year or less in gross adjusted income, this scholarship seeks candidates who have overcome significant adversity and shown leadership through extracurricular and community service activities. There is a minimum GPA of 2.0 to apply and some states have restrictions on specific institutions where the funds can be used. The good news is that the Horatio Alger Association awards funds in all 50 states, meaning that you will only be competing against those in your state and not students from across the nation.
