Amelia Bones

Character Analysis

Amelia Bones is the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She is also the one who is overseeing Harry's hearing for the use of underage magic. Tonks reassures Harry that, "Amelia Bones is OK [...] She's fair, she'll hear you out" (7.22). In fact, this turns out to be true: whenever Cornelius Fudge seems about ready to dismiss Mrs. Figg's dementor testimony, Amelia Bones chides, "She certainly described the effects of a dementor attack very accurately. And I can't imagine why she would say they were there if they weren't" (8.102). So Bones appears tough but fair.
