- After quickly cleaning up—and destroying that list—Leo and Raisa hustle out the door. They see MGB "agents [...] entering the building" as they walk away (4.37.2).
- Despite their predicament, Leo decides to visit his parents. The train isn't leaving until the morning, anyway, and Leo suspects that this will be his last opportunity to see them.
- After Leo picks the lock, he and Raisa creep into the apartment: Leo's parents now share a home with another family. They make their way to Leo's parents' room and quietly wake them up.
- The family shares a tender moment. Before Leo leaves, his parents hand him a letter, telling him to wait to open it until he's on the train home.
