How It All Goes Down
Same Day
- Leo enters Nesterov's office. Nesterov immediately tells him about his arrest, explaining that MGB officers are preparing to storm in and arrest Leo. Raisa is already in custody.
- Nesterov has a plan, however: Leo must hit him with his gun, "knocking [him] unconscious" (4.41.20). That should provide cover for Nesterov while giving Leo time to escape.
- Before Leo gets to the hitting, he and Nesterov discuss the case. Based on their research, the serial killer must be committing murders while traveling for work, making the local Volga factory his only potential stop in Voualsk.
- With that, Leo clocks his buddy in the face, steals his car keys, and runs out the door, high-tailing it to Nesterov's car.
- Leo heads for the freeway, but he can see an MGB roadblock up ahead. The guy doesn't have any options at this point, so he tries "punching through this roadblock" (4.41.54).
- It works as well as you'd imagine: the car is launched into the air and lands upside-down. The last thing Leo remembers is Vasili pulling him from the wreckage.
